Client's Drug Trafficking Conviction Wiped Out
Our client was arrested by ICE (the criminal investigation arm of US Immigration and Customs). The Government sought to deport our client for a crime that he had been convicted of more than 15 years ago. He immediately had family contact us and our attorney Mike King went to work to determine if the prior conviction could be overturned. We found that in 1988 he had been convicted of the crime of trafficking in cocaine for which he served over 4 years in prison. Upon his release he had succeeded in starting a prosperous legal business. We investigated the circumstances surrounding the conviction and discovered that the evidence linking him to the co-conspirators was shoddy at best. We reviewed records and spoke to his defense lawyer who plead him guilty as well as the prosecutors who convicted him. Finally, we obtained the transcript from the original guilty plea dialogue with the court. Upon researching and investigating all facts and issues pertaining to the case we filed a motion to vacate and set aside the original guilty plea. After a significant amount of legal manuevers by our team the motion was granted. Subsequently, we succeeded in having all charges against our client dismissed. This allowed our client to remain in the US to continue his successful legal business ventures.
